LOCATION: WHITECONCEPTS Gallery, Auguststrasse 35, 10119 Berlin

WHITECONCEPTS Gallery is delighted to present “The X – Part II”. With this group show, the Berlin-based gallery celebrates its 10th anniversary.

WHITECONCEPTS gives priority to issues concerning perceptions of space and regards this notion as a unifying principle of artistic positions. In close cooperation with artists, primarily socially critical projects are presented, which show diverse and forward-looking perspectives. Building on the avant-garde power of art, the gallery has built an international network. WHITECONCEPTS is also a regular publisher of artist catalogs and monographs.

WHITECONCEPTS was founded in 2009 by the curator and art manager Nicole Loeser. The curatorial commitment has always been to explore artistic methods, to stimulate debates about current artistic practices, discourses and theories. The gallery focuses primarily on conceptual art and an interdisciplinary engagement with various media, including visual and sculptural works, installations, performances and public interventions.

So far, Nicole Loeser and her team have curated more than 80 exhibitions and numerous art projects and participated in 30 international art fairs.

The Universal Sea – The Art and Innovation Guide Against the Plastic Epidemic is not only a manual for a smart plastic living but an opportunity to harness the power of art and bring every citizen of our world into action against the plastic epidemic. It showcases a range of visual art forms, as well as successful progressive initiatives. However, the book will also explore transferrable approaches and methods, which can be taken back into our everyday life.

This book (464 pages, English) is the first of its kind in its attempt to bring together artists, as well as business leaders, scientific experts, and everyday people, to scrutinize and solve the world’s unsustainable use of plastic. Group Show “Frauen über Frauen”: 07.03.2019 – 13.04.2019

LOCATION: Deschler Gallery, Auguststr. 61, 10117 Berlin , GERMANY

Website

Participating Artists: Elvira Bach, Xenia Hausner, Seet van Hout, Lies Maculan, Deborah Sengl, Yukiko Terada und Patricia Waller.

Seet’s textile works are site-specifically installed. Through application her works directly to the walls and floors. so that three-dimensional, poetic drawings and delicate installations are created.

With this exhibition Deschler gallery honors the International Women’s Day on 8 March starting off this year as an official holiday in Berlin.  With more than 100 years of history, the day reflects the numerous historical upheavals of the 20th century. Emerging from a conference of socialist women in 1910, the International Women’s Day was first proclaimed the following year, later banned by Nazis and reintroduced in the GDR as a socialist holiday. in 1977, the UN proclaimed March 8  as the “United Nation’s Day for the Rights of Women and World Peace”. Initially linked to women’s electoral rights, starting in the 1970s, it became an important date for activists working for women’s full equality.

Together the artists create a panopticon that sheds light on the complex ever shifting cultural perception of woman, their social role and ideological positioning in the contemporary world.

Seet van Hout’s work is also part of our current gallery exhibition “The X Part II” at WHITECONCEPTS Gallery running through 28 April.

Uwe Poth at Museum Flehite
Uwe Poth at Museum Flehite
February 12, 2019 In News No Comment

Exhibition: 08.02.2019 – 19.05.2019

Group Exhibition: “Stadsbeelden – City Images”

LOCATION: Museum Flehite, Westsingel 50, 3811 BC Amsterfoort/NL

Website

With the exhibition ‘Stadsbeelden – City Images’, Museum Flehite introduces us to the work of eight contemporary artists who research and document the theme ‘city’. Parallel to Maestro Van Wittel at Kunsthal KAdE, Museum Flehite organizes this exhibition on contemporary urban art. It is the first exhibition of the museum after a thorough renovation.

The exhibition shows works by Iwan Baan, Stefan Bleekrode, Frank Halmans, Carlijn Kingma, Uwe Poth, Frank van der Salm, Rob Voerman and Hans Wilschut who each in their own way researched the theme of ‘city’ and recorded it in drawings, paintings, photographs and 3D objects.

Traveling is an important theme in the work of Uwe Poth (Kiel, 1946). Traveling to other countries and cultures, but also traveling in time, which makes things fade and evaporated. In his paintings and drawings you meet elements from then and now as a principle of cultural layering defining the artist’s position in time. Poth mostly works with oil on large canvases, but uses different materials as a means of expression, such as chalk, watercolor, photo and collage.

His work is currently presented in our gallery exhibition ” The X Part II” running through 28 April.

Katrin Korfmann at Teylers Museum
Katrin Korfmann at Teylers Museum
February 1, 2019 In News No Comment

Exhibition: 01.02.2019 – 02.06.2019

LOCATION: Teylers Museum, Spaarne 16, 2011 CH Haarlem/NL

Website

Teylers Museum has been supporting ‘living art’ since the end of the eighteenth century by collecting and presenting contemporary works of art. With this in mind, from 1 February to 2 June in the Tuinzaal, the photo “Back Stages, Teylers Museum” of artists Katrin Korfmann (1971) and Jens Pfeifer (1963) can be seen.

The huge picture of more than three by four meters shows an imaginary moment from above in Teylers Museum. Korfmann and Pfeifer made the work as part of the Back Stages series, in which they map all aspects of making and showing art and culture worldwide. From more than five hundred individual photographs of the museum, the artists put together a new solidified reality. Regular visitors to the museum will recognize pieces of Fossil Hall mixed with the Oval Room.

As in a huge tetris game, the artists built from these separate elements a new pattern that symbolizes the social patterns and connections that are necessary to produce art. This never happens in full romantic isolation, but continuously in contacts between artists, collectors, traders, exhibition makers and the public.
